Be better

The news felt bleak to me yesterday morning and I pondered it a lot throughout the day. These were some of the many thoughts I considered and I'm writing them down as a reminder to myself, and to you, should you need it.

Consider why people get so angry and distressed about an election result like this. Talk about it, listen to all perspectives.

Check your privilege. Be grateful. Donate money to causes this government will not support. Support journalism that reports the facts. Listen to Greta and do what you can for the environment.

Politics affects every aspect of your life: pay attention.

Remember that a dignified silence can turn into complicity when a third of the country’s children are living in poverty. Do whatever you can for those in need (food banks, money to the homeless, a little bit of kindness).

Listen before shouting into the void.

Pray to whoever the fuck you want that the NHS somehow doesn’t crumble. Don't abuse it.

Call out people who buy into our so-called Prime Minister’s racist, homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, intolerable, backward views.

Be kind.

Be better.
