Welcome to the wedding posts! Aka a great excuse to share a load of photos and reflect back on our wedding day which was on Saturday 1 June 2019. All professional photos in these posts are taken by our bloomin’ lovely wedding photographer Hannah Mia. The rest are by friends and family.
Read about the morning of here and the ceremony here.
To get from the ceremony to the pub, we had to walk the half a mile or so through town and the park. We really hadn’t given much thought to this part of the day. In fact, we were almost ignoring it because we didn’t have a back-up plan should the weather not play ball. There was no parking around either the pub or gallery and even trying to pull up next to either of them is a pain. So it would have been ‘entertaining’ should it have pissed it down. Luckily, it was the hottest day of the year!
Perhaps because we had no expectations or perhaps because it really was just fab, this turned out to be one of my absolute favourite parts of the day and I have such vivid memories of it.
The sun was blazing and St Albans beautiful, and we led a parade of our family and friends right through the centre of town.
When we first came down the stairs and out the front of the gallery, some of my friends – led by Dan I suspect – had lined up outside and immediately started clapping. There is an outside café right in front of the gallery and everyone sat in it turned and then they immediately started clapping. I can just remember thinking are people really clapping like we’re in a film or summin’.
We walked right through the centre of the Saturday market with lots of market vendors/people shouting out congratulations or cheering/clapping. One guy even offered us a free doughnut!
The bit that made me chuckle the most was stopping at the crossing waiting for the lights to go green. We were just swamping people out and about doing their Saturday shopping!
We led our procession past our flat and into the cathedral grounds. I remember laughing a lot at all the chatter from the girls behind me and them telling me off for walking too fast whilst they were trying to hold my dress and walk over the cobbles in their heels.
There was laughter and chatter in the air and even more people calling out congratulations and I can’t even tell you how happy it made me.
We paused in front of the cathedral to allow everyone to catch up and then headed into the park. I know for a fact that several of our friends stopped for a cheeky ice cream from the Mr Whippy van and yes I was kinda jealous that I didn’t have any spare hands for one of my own.
We soon became aware that there were plenty of people who had brought confetti with them (something I honestly hadn’t considered) and so we stopped on the path and people lined up, ready for us to walk through a big confetti shower! The bridesmaids got really into this and my mum seemed to empty an entire box onto my head!
The pub was in sight, a ‘closed for a private event’ sign outside along with some of staff pouring champagne. I was walking too fast for my bridesmaids again but hey, alcohol in a pub garden was in sight. We were ready to kick start the celebrations!
This was such a joyous part of the day, and includes some of my favourite photos, so I felt it deserved a post of its own!
